Notre Dame’s Molbert Commits to Cajuns

Louisiana’s Ragin’Cajuns received their third high school commitment to the 2010 Signing Class from Notre Dame high OLB Jacob Molbert. Mamou high RB Robert Walker, a 2009 signee will enroll in school this spring and resign with the 2010 Class of football athletes.

Once Jacob Molbert received the phone call from Cajun defensive coordinator Kevin Fouquier offering a scholarship, it didn’t take him long to give a verbal to the program.

“I grew up watching Cajun football,” Jacob said. “Most kids around here grow up as LSU fans, but my dad took me to UL games when I was little and I became a huge Cajun fan. I’ve always dreamed about playing for the Cajuns and once they offered, it was an easy decision to make a commitment.”

While Molbert had interest from ULM, Northwestern State, McNeese State and Missouri State, he only took three unofficial visits this fall.

“I went to Lake Charles earlier this season to watch a game at McNeese State,” stated Molbert. “But I really didn’t have much interest in their program after visiting UL for home games against Southern and Florida Atlantic. UL was the only program to offer me a scholarship.”

The 6”2, 210-pounder will start out at the SAM linebacker position for the Cajuns next fall, but is currently playing defensive end on the PIOS defense front.

As a junior, Molbert earned first team All District and honorable mention All State honors after recording 73 tackles, 17 sacks and 23 quarterback hurries. This season, Molbert has totaled seven sacks and 56 tackles (32 solo) for the unbeaten Notre Dame Pios (9-0).

Jacob has not qualified yet, but plains on taking the ACT several more times before the National Signing Day.

“I scored a 17 on my first ACT test,” Jacob said. “I plan on taking the test again in December. I really don’t know what my GPA is right now, but I need to score at least a 20 on the ACT to qualify as a freshman.”

Jacob Molbert isn’t the only Notre Dame athlete that currently has interest from the Cajun football staff, linebacker Hunter Stover has also come in on unofficial visits.

“Hunter and I have talked about coming to UL together,” stated Molbert. “He likes the program as well and it would be great to play together at UL, but they haven’t offered him yet.”

The Pios play Kaplan High for the district championship this Friday and that’s all Jacob Molbert has on his mind right now.

“We know they are a very athletic team,” said Jacob. “This is going to be big game for both schools and we are going to focus on the things that have helped us prepare every week for the schedule we have played.”
