Medina makes his choice

Sergio Medina

Hahnville linebacker Sergio Medina made the decision to commit to Tulane during an official visit over the weekend...

Sergio Medina felt the love from the outset of his official with the Green Wave.

"I got the offer on the visit," Medina said. "Coach (Curtis) Johnson told me, 'we're offering you right here and right now. I've talked to our coaches who said you're a good guy, a good worker, and that's the kind of guy we need around here.'"

After enjoying Friday and Saturday's festivities, where he was hosted by wide receiver Xavier Rush, Medina announced his decision to the staff on Sunday.

"We were eating breakfast," Medina recounted. "I told them that when Coach Lamb visited my house Thursday, he told me not to try to fit in at a school - to go where the fit is good for me - and that's exactly what I felt on the Tulane visit.

"Xavier Rush is a good guy. Orleans Darkwa is another good guy. I know (fellow commit) Leonard Davis from East Saint John pretty good."

Medina shined at running back as a senior for Hahnville but is primarily known as a defender.

"The coaches want me to play sam or will linebacker," he said, "and that sounds perfect. I'm excited to get the opportunity and will do whatever I can do to help out."

Medina's decision was a hit with his mom.

"She loves it," he said. "She likes everything about it especially the education.

"The campus is wonderful and I'm ready to be a part of it."

North Texas offered Medina a few months ago and was in great position to land him until the Tulane offer.
