Plaquemine head coach Paul Distefano is very excited about his 2013 squad. He discusses next season…
Godchaux visiting LSU soon
"Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, and Nebraska have been contacting me, in addition to LSU," Godchaux tells TSD. "Notre Dame has also still been sending me stuff too. Mississippi State has been on me pretty hard recently as well. Notre Dame is at the top with the other schools for me too. Florida and Florida State are also up there."
Being that he hails from Louisiana, Godchaux has had LSU on his top list of schools from the very beginning. Godchaux explained that the contact with LSU has become routine in recent weeks.
"They have been sending me a lot of mail," said Godchaux. "I think they are just really trying to explain everything about the junior day visit that they have coming up for me."
The visit that Godchaux is speaking of is the Boys from the Boot Junior Day at LSU, something Godchaux will attend. Heading into the visit Godchaux has a pretty good idea of what he will be looking for in Baton Rouge.
"I'm just going to be looking at the academic side of things because school comes first," said Godchaux. "I want to see how the whole program works and how all of the coaches are able to interact and things like that. I just want to get a good feel for everything."
Godchaux also had a chance to take in the final game of LSU for 2012 against Clemson, a game that did not have the same outcome that Godchaux had hoped for.
"I was kind of mad that LSU got beat," said Godchaux. "But at the same time, you win some and you lose some. They will bounce back from it."
While Godchaux is only a junior in high school, he has already decided that he wants to play early at the school of his choice. Godchaux feels that he will be able to perform well enough to get on the field as a freshman.
"Early playing time will be very important time," said Godchaux. "I would love to play my first year and get meaningful snaps so that I can contribute. Playing time will be a big deciding factor for me."
With LSU being one of the schools on the short-list for Godchaux, he has had a chance to look at them closely enough to realize that the Tigers could be losing a lot of players from the 2012 defense. Another SEC school intrigues Godchaux for the same reason.
"That will definitely be a big factor," said Godchaux, when asked about players leaving early. "I like Texas A&M because of that as well. But, the fact that LSU could lose a lot of guys is big because it would mean that I would get on the field early there too."
Godchaux has already started thinking about summer camp plans as well. At this point, there are four schools that Godchaux would like to camp at this summer.
"I'm going to the Texas A&M camp," said Godchaux. "I want to try and get to the Florida and Florida State camps during the summer too. I'll be at the LSU camp as well."
Making a college choice is not something that Godchaux is worried about at this point in the process. However, he has had a chance to figure out when he would like to make his final decision.
"I want to wait until national signing day," said Godchaux. "I want to be able to enjoy the moment with my family.
