Jarvis Landry had his best night as a LSU Tiger, but he remains humble throughout all the success.

Listen to Jarvis Landry answer questions about his recent run of success, and it would appear his gaudy stats were a gift from his coaches and teammates.

He takes none of the credit for himself, instead complimenting the coaches, Zach Mettenberger and the offensive line. With reporters almost begging him to even acknowledge his career-high 109-yard night, he just flashes his signature grin as if he takes pride in his humility.

“It was an exciting night for the offense as a whole,” Landry said. “Zach Mettenberger and the offensive line, I can’t say enough about those guys. They give Zach the time, and Zach gives me the opportunity to make plays. [Offensive coordinator Greg Studrawa] and Coach [Les] Miles did a great job of mixing things up to keep the defense offbalance.”

Starting with LSU’s meeting with Towson on Sept. 29, Landry went through a stretch of four games in which he had a combined six receptions for 56 yards. In his last two, against Alabama and Mississippi State, he has 17 receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns.

How does Landry choose to describe those breakout performances? He doesn’t. He reflects the praise on his teammates.

“As a receiving corp, we’ve been a strength these past weeks, with our ability to catch the ball and get separation,” Landry said. “With that said, we give all credit to Zach. Zach did a great job of getting extra time in with us, preparing harder. That was one of the biggest keys on that off week that propelled our offense."

To get any kind of comment on Landry’s night Saturday, you have to ask those around him. Miles spoke glowingly of his receiver during the postgame press conference.

“Jarvis Landry will have nights like this routinely,” Miles said. “He comes to practice and works consistently excellent. He’s easily one of the hardest practicing players on the team… Landry will have more nights like that. It’s a career night now, maybe because it’s early in his career.”

Landry’s breakout games have correlated with the offense’s newfound efficiency. Against both Alabama and Mississippi State, Landry consistently provided an open target for Mettenberger, leading to more completions, more yardage and more touchdowns.

Does Landry take credit for providing a much-needed spark to LSU’s struggling offense?

Absolutely not.

“It’s the coaching staff giving me the opportunities,” Landry said. “I can’t say enough about them. They’re trusting me, and trusting Zach to make a play. It’s all up to Zach. Anybody can get the ball on any given play, and he’s trusting me to make plays, and that’s what I did.”

It’s understandable for Landry to not focus on individual performances during the season. He stresses the importance he places on team values and that fuels his motivation.

But will he ever take a few moments to dwell on what he has accomplished? His answer is simple.

“Never.”
