Young making frequent trips to LSU

Kenny Young

FOXSportsNEXT.com 300 junior linebacker Kenny Young (John Curtis Christian) discusses his back-to-back weekend trips to LSU to watch the Tigers host Alabama and Mississippi State.

Kenny Young was able to spend some quality time with LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis on Saturday.

"Coach Chavis and I talked for a little while," said Young, the nation's 11th-ranked junior outside linebacker. "He told me to keep working. He said they want me. Frank (Wilson) told me the same thing.

"It was a very good game for LSU last night. They made the big plays and came out and dominated like LSU is supposed to do after a loss to Alabama."

Young was present in Tiger Stadium for LSU/Alabama two weeks ago.

"Overall it was a very good game," he said. "LSU just made a couple of mistakes that cost them. LSU has a good linebacker in (Kevin) Minter. Alabama has a good group of linebackers."

Young and Ole Miss coach Grant Heard keep tabs on one another.

"Coach Heard and I have a good relationship going," Young said. "I'm always contacting him."

The Rebels have extended offers to John Curtis prospects Malachi Dupre, Terrence Alexander, Duke Riley and Young.

Young traveled to Baton Rouge this weekend with teammate Mattrell McGraw, a standout 2014 defensive back.

"We met up with Duke, Malachi, Patrick (Morton) and the rest of the guys once we got up there to LSU," Young added.

Curtis is ranked second in the nation. The Patriots travel (six and a half hours) to Springhill this week for a second round battle at North Webster, a recently consolidated school that merged Springhill High with Cotton Valley and Sarepta.

"North Webster has good athletes," Young said after reviewing film. "Their tight end, quarterback and running back are all college prospects."

Young ranks fourth among his teammates with 51 tackles. The Patriots have been stingy on defense with four consecutive shutouts. Curtis has blanked six of its last seven opponents.
